Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas was founded in 1985 as the volunteer membership organization for the professions of literary management and dramaturgy. LMDA is a not-for-profit tax-exempt organization with members throughout North America and abroad. LMDA holds the belief that theater is a vital art form that has the power to nourish, educate, and transform individuals and their communities and that dramaturgy is central to the process of theater-making.

From its nationally recognized names to small independent venues, Minneapolis ranks as the fifth-most “creatively vital” city in the country. Home to more than 45 presenting theatres and 150 professional theatre companies, a multitude of college/university theatre programs, Minnesota has a vibrant theatre community that also plays host the Minnesota Fringe – a theatre festival that will be happening during our conference with over 160 works and more than 7000 performances.  Join us in exploring what it means to Rise Up; to use art and activism to make positive change in our communities. In 2018, the Conference will explore the profession of the theatre educator, both as teacher and artist. We are all Artists will examine the intersection of classroom teaching and theatrical artistry, in workshops and keynotes that focus on how teachers and teaching artists can collaborate and complement one another’s strengths to enrich students’ theatre experiences.
