International City Theatre Announces 2018 Season
LONG BEACH, CALIF: International City Theatre has announced its 2018 season, featuring five works.
The season will start with Daddy Long Legs (Feb. 23-March 11, 2018), with book by John Caird and music and lyrics by Paul Gordon, a chamber musical about the correspondence between an orphaned girl and her mysterious benefactor.
Next up will be Hansol Jung’s Cardboard Piano (May 4-20, 2018), about the daughter of an American missionary and an Ugandan teenage girl who find love against the backdrop of Uganda’s civil war.
Following will be The 39 Steps (June 22-July 8, 2018), adapted by Patrick Barlow from the novel by John Buchan, and based on the film by Alfred Hitchcock. The play is a mystery thriller with train chases, plummeting planes, old-fashioned romance, and hundreds of characters portrayed by four actors.
The season will continue with Arthur Miller’s The Glass Menagerie (Aug. 24-Sept. 9, 2018), by Tennessee Williams, a semi-autobiographical memory play that chronicles the Wingfield family during the onset of World War II.
The season will conclude with A Splintered Soul (Oct. 19-Nov. 4), by Alan L. Brooks, about a group of resettled Holocaust survivors in San Francisco haunted by the death of their loved ones.
International City Theatre, founded in 1985, produces contemporary works and provides educational programming.
