The Future of Arts Administration Education:
Evolution, Reinvention, and Transformation
Arts administration education has existed as an academic discipline for almost 50 years. In that time, our field has defined and discovered the principles behind the business of the arts, and codified them in academic settings. The result has been nothing short of revolutionary–the formalization and maturation of an entire field of study and practice. As we begin to move out of our early years as a field, how can we expect arts administration and higher education to change? What seismic shifts will revolutionize our discipline? This year’s conference will examine the geopolitical shifts, business model evolutions, and reimagined educational experiences that are pointing us all toward the next iteration of arts administration education.
AAAE represents college and university graduate and undergraduate programs in arts administration, encompassing training in the management of visual, performing, literary, media, cultural and arts service organizations. The organization consists of more than 150 member programs, all training and equipping students in arts leadership, management, entrepreneurship, cultural policy, and more. AAAE’s network of faculty and their alumni are the cornerstones of local arts communities across the globe. The organization serves as a convener, a resource, and an advocate for formal arts administration education.
